Local Attractions

The golf resort is located just 3 miles away from the typically Spanish town of San Roque in the province of Cadiz in Andalucia. The town itself is where the Gibraltarians, who elected not to succumb to British rule, established themselves on high ground in 1700.

This picturesque town has a bull ring, museum, a beautiful church and weekly market. There are historic buildings, picturesque views of the coast, an art deco hotel, local tapas bars, good restaurants and shops. It's just a 10 minute drive or quiet cycle ride away along a virtually deserted undulating road and a really pleasant spot not to be missed.

The San Roque casino is located just 5 minutes drive from the house and offers regular entertainment, international cuisine and lots of fun. Excursions inland can be fascinating and allow you to savour the authentic siesta type lifestyle of Spain.

Gibraltar is just 20 minutes drive away. You can cross over the border by car or foot and take a tour around the British colony, so much the matter of long dispute for its naval advantage. Tax free shopping, incredibly cheap cigarettes and liquor and some wonderful beaches and sights make this a destination for a day out. There is a big Carrefour supermarket en route from Gibraltar to San Roque and this is a good stop off point for fresh food and groceries.

Torreguardio is a Spanish town near San Roque Golf Resort. By car it takes less than 10 minutes, here you will find (along with the Sotogrande Polo Club and a sandy beach) a thriving and growing community offering all the regular shops and facilities you need including butchers, bakers and a good supermarket.

Sotogrande and the infamous marina is still being developed and is a thriving place in season with a high prevalence of Spanish and European visitors attracted by the sailing, water sports, golf and cosmopolitan restaurants. All season you can join the locals for a coffee, witness the international flavour of the inhabitants and observe the beautiful people and yachts.

Duquesa, a bustling port and marina, is a haven for good restaurants/pizzerias and nightlife - a picturesque and calm place with a variety of shops and gallerias to browse in and nice marina side cafes to watch from. It's a 15 minute drive from the house and taxis are readily available for a night out in one of the late bars and discos. There is a long sandy beach at Duquesa and easy access to beachside parking and local beach side fish restaurants frequented by locals and tourists alike.

Puerto Banus is the chic place to go and where the rich and famous moor their fabulous yachts and "cruise" in Ferraris and Aston Martins. A fashion paradise with leading European fashion outlets lining the streets behind the harbour and a wealth of late bars and international restaurants and clubs. For all night revelling amongst the elite and the many British tourists who want a lively location this is the place to be. You can get there in 20 minutes. The picturesque inland tourist attractions of Mijas, Casares, Ronda and other typical tourist spots are all within a 15-40 minute drive away and easily accessible for browsing half days away from the beach if the weather is too hot for comfort.

TarifaThe provinces of Andalucia including Seville, Jerez, Cadiz and, further away across the water, Tangier in North Africa are all again within easy distance for a day trip to savour the culture. Tarifa offers excellent windsurfing and moorish culture and Marbella offers unrivalled shopping opportunity for leather goods, fashion and European artisan products. Fishermen and potential sailors can arrange sea trips locally and explore the coast through private charters.

Children

There are a number of local places to visit with children and events at the club, particularly in high season. There are themeparks, waterparks and dolphin trips. There are also specific attractions within reach but do check opening times as some of these are seasonal. For tennis or water sport coaching so readily available do pre book.

Golf

The World Class Valderrama Ryder Cup course, Almenara Golf Club, Duquesa Golf and San Roque golf courses offer golfers of all persuasions a challenge. Guests at the house have access to book rounds on these bordering courses at advantage green fee rates as a result of the owners' golf membership at San Roque.
